BJP leader writes to Shah over remarks against women
Jalandhar, Feb 4: A senior BJP leader from Punjab today asked party chief Amit Shah to rein in party members making "medieval" statements against women, flagging its senior leader Babulal Gaur's remarks over women's entry into Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra.
In a letter written to Shah, Laxmi Kanta Chawla raised objections to Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur's controversial remarks that women can worship from home instead of entering the temple in Shani Shingnapur, alleging that no action had sbeen taken by the party against him.

The former Punjab cabinet minister said that such statements will not benefit a party like BJP, which has lakhs of female workers and will adversely affect the image of the country.
"I request you to rein in BJP leaders with such medieval mindset and restrain them from making such statements," she wrote in the letter. Gaur had said "Leave it, women can worship at home", when his response was sought on the ongoing debate on whether women should be allowed into the temple in Shani Shingnapur.
