Local BJP leader shot dead in Aligarh

, Aug 26: A local BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified persons in Tappal area here, police said today.

Gyan Chandra Sharma and his driver Raj Kumar were shot at when the BJP leader was on his way to home last night, police spokesman Vinod Payal said.

The two were rushed to Nehru Medical College where Sharma was declared brought dead, while Rajkumar was admitted in serious condition, he said.

Payal said Sharma had a history of enmity with several persons and had many cases registered against him including one under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
