BJP leader promises to make Basohli heritage town

Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu, Apr 11: BJP candidate from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat Jitendra Singh today promised that Basohli, founded by Raja Bhupat Pal in 1635, will be declared as heritage town if the party is voted to power at the Centre.

Famous for its miniature paintings, Basohli, a small town and a tehsil headquarters in Kathua district, is situated on the right bank of the Ravi river at an altitude of 1,876 ft.

he BJP leader said that the art and painting of Basohli is hailed and promoted worldwide except in Jammu and Kashmir which is a sad irony.

"This as a glaring instance of cultural discrimination with Jammu due to Kashmir-centric approach of the government," he said during a campaigning in Kathua district. The monuments and scenic spots of the area, deserve to be developed as tourist spots, he added.

"If BJP is given representation in the Lok Sabha, it will strive for justice and due attention for Basohli," Singh promised.
