BJP-JDU Start Preparations For Bihar Assembly Elections 2025; CM Nitish, PM Modi's New Poster Creates A Buzz

It looks like NDA in Bihar is all set for the Assembly elections 2025. The Janata Dal-United (JDU) recently released a new poster featuring Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This follows a previous poster with the slogan "Jab baat Bihar ki ho, naam sirf Nitish Kumar ka ho" (When it's about Bihar, the name is only Nitish Kumar). The party's minister Shravan Kumar also confirmed that Nitish Kumar would return as Chief Minister in 2025.

Meanwhile, several National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), have consistently shown their support for elections under Nitish Kumar's leadership. BJP leader and Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary recently stated that NDA will contest the assembly polls in Bihar next year under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nitish Kumar and PM Modi: A Strategic Alliance?

In recent times, JDU's messaging seemed to focus solely on Nitish Kumar. However, today's poster is the first to feature both Nitish Kumar and PM Modi together. This has led to speculation about the alliance's electoral strategy for 2025. The inclusion of both leaders suggests a possible shift in approach as they prepare for upcoming elections.

The Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies in Bihar is set for October or November 2025. The last assembly elections took place in October-November 2020. Following those elections, the National Democratic Alliance formed the state government with Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister.

Political Shifts and Alliances

In August 2022, the JD(U) led by Nitish Kumar ended its alliance with NDA and formed a government with RJD-led Mahagathbandhan. However, by January 2024, JD(U) had severed ties with Mahagathbandhan and rejoined forces with BJP-led NDA. These shifts highlight the dynamic nature of political alliances in Bihar.

The recent posters from JDU indicate a strong emphasis on Nitish Kumar's leadership. With slogans like "2025... Phir Se Nitish" (2025... Nitish Again), it is clear that the party is positioning him as a central figure for future elections. The strategic use of imagery featuring both him and PM Modi could be an attempt to consolidate support from various factions within NDA.
