Mumbai, Oct 12: Urging people not to believe in th eopposition's lies that the BJP government is against reservations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "This is something which Babasaheb Ambedkar has given us and no power can take it away."
The Prime Minister's statement comes in the wake of RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat's statements about revision of the reservation policies. Bhagwat had suggested that quotas had been made to meet political ends and a review committee is required to check how much preference they need and for how long.
Modi further added,"Every time when a BJP government is in power, a group of liars spreads the malicious propaganda that we are out to scrap reservations... It happened during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government's time as well... This rumour-mongering starts every time when elections are round the corner." "I have seen poverty. I have lived with it and there is a lot to be done for the uplift of the downtrodden of the society to whose betterment Babasheb was committed," he also said.
Addressing a rally at Bandra while laying the foundation stone for two elevated metro projects, Modi said,""I have seen poverty. I have lived with it and there is a lot to be done for the uplift of the downtrodden of the society to whose betterment Babasheb was committed."
