Akhilesh Yadav Urges BJP Government to Focus on Service at Maha Kumbh Instead of Self-Promotion
The BJP government should approach the Maha Kumbh with a spirit of service, not as a platform for self-promotion, according to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. He criticised the arrangements at the event, pointing out issues with toilets and the inconvenience caused to the public due to VIP movements. Yadav emphasised that spiritual tourists seeking peace should have a smooth experience.

Yadav highlighted that the Maha Kumbh, occurring once every 144 years at the Sangam, is a unique event. He stated, "Whenever the confluence of the triveni of harmony, cordiality and tolerance happens within a person, we all experience Maha Kumbh." He urged that arrangements should be special, not people. The focus should be on ensuring pilgrims' comfort rather than prioritising VIPs.
Facilities and Budget Concerns
The SP chief expressed concerns over the Rs 10,000 crore budget allocated for Maha Kumbh. He noted that expected facilities are lacking despite this significant budget. Yadav stressed that maximum facilities should be provided to poor attendees. The absence of adequate amenities is a major issue that needs addressing.
Yadav also criticised the inconvenience caused by making roads one-way for VIP arrivals. He suggested running buses for pick-up and drop-off services to ease this problem. The chaos affects not only devotees but also officials and staff working tirelessly at the event. These observations were presented as constructive suggestions rather than complaints.
Public Inconvenience Due to VIP Movement
Yadav pointed out that public inconvenience during VIP movements should be minimised. People often have to walk long distances due to road restrictions. He also highlighted the lack of toilet facilities and inadequate water supply in existing toilets. These basic amenities are crucial for ensuring a comfortable experience for all attendees.
In conclusion, Yadav's remarks aim to improve the overall management of Maha Kumbh. His suggestions focus on enhancing facilities and reducing inconvenience for both pilgrims and officials involved in organising the event. By addressing these issues, the government can ensure a more inclusive and peaceful experience for everyone attending this significant spiritual gathering.
