AAP Alleges BJP Seeks President's Rule In Delhi Post-Kejriwal Arrest

In a recent session of the Delhi Assembly, AAP legislators voiced concerns over what they perceive as attempts by the BJP to impose President's Rule in the national capital following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Madan Lal, AAP MLA from Kasturba Nagar, raised allegations during a discussion, suggesting that these efforts aimed to coerce Kejriwal into resignation post-arrest.

An atmosphere akin to an emergency has reportedly unfolded in Delhi, with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena allegedly stating his refusal to allow Kejriwal to govern from incarceration. This statement has sparked debates on the legality and constitutional rights concerning the governance of a chief minister under judicial custody.

Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case tied to his government's now-defunct excise policy has led to his judicial custody until April 15. Amidst this turmoil, AAP MLAs have rallied in support of Kejriwal, asserting that no law prevents him from leading the government while in jail.

Rumors of a potential imposition of President's Rule in Delhi are being circulated as a tactic to intimidate AAP, according to Madan Lal. Meanwhile, BS Joon, another AAP MLA, sought to allay fears by clarifying that there is no constitutional crisis at hand and that claims regarding the dissolution of the Delhi Assembly are unfounded. He further mentioned that the Delhi High Court has dismissed Public Interest Litigations (PILs) seeking Kejriwal's removal from office.

Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, representing Model Town as an AAP MLA, labeled Kejriwal's arrest as baseless but affirmed the party's resilience against BJP's pressure tactics. He emphasized that despite these challenges, Kejriwal will continue his tenure as Chief Minister.

The unfolding events in Delhi have sparked a significant political debate, highlighting the tensions between AAP and BJP amidst allegations and legal battles. The situation remains fluid as both sides stand firm on their respective positions regarding governance and legal proceedings in the capital.
