BJP Continues Its Winning Streak in Uttarakhand Lok Sabha Seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a significant victory in Uttarakhand, securing all five Lok Sabha seats for the third consecutive time, effectively continuing its dominance over the Congress party. This win marks the fifth successive defeat of Congress in the state, highlighting BJP's sustained political stronghold in the region. The party had previously triumphed over Congress in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections, as well as in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP won 57 seats out of 70, with Congress securing only 11 seats. However, Congress saw a slight improvement in 2022, winning 19 seats against BJP's 47.

BJP Wins in Uttarakhand Again

As the counting progressed, BJP candidates took an early lead over their Congress rivals, eventually sealing a decisive 5-0 victory. Union Minister of State for Defence and Tourism Ajay Bhatt clinched the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seat with a substantial margin of 3,34,548 votes against Congress's Prakash Joshi, according to the Election Commission. Bhatt, who had previously defeated Congress veteran Harish Rawat in 2019 by a margin of 3,39,096 votes, led with the largest margin among all BJP candidates. A former president of Uttarakhand BJP and leader of opposition in the state assembly, Bhatt's victory underscores his continued influence in the region.

Trivendra Singh Rawat, another prominent figure from BJP and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, won the Haridwar seat by defeating Congress candidate Virender Rawat by 1,64,056 votes. This victory marks Trivendra's entry into the Lok Sabha for the first time and signifies his return to political prominence after his resignation as Chief Minister in March 2021. Virender Rawat, making his electoral debut, is the elder son of Harish Rawat.

In other significant wins for BJP, Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah retained the Tehri Garhwal seat for the fourth consecutive time by defeating Jot Singh Gunsola of Congress by 2,72,493 votes. Ajay Tamta secured victory in the reserved Almora seat against former Rajya Sabha Congress MP Pradeep Tamta by 234097 votes. Additionally, BJP's national media in-charge Anil Baluni triumphed over former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal by 1,63,503 votes in Garhwal Pauri.

The overall vote share further highlighted BJP's dominance with 53.81 per cent of votes going to BJP while Congress managed to secure only 32.83 per cent. This victory in Uttarakhand stood out as one of the few bright spots for BJP amidst setbacks in several other states.

Following this sweeping win, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the party office on Balbir Road to join the celebrations. Dhami was warmly welcomed by party leaders and workers amid chants praising his leadership. He attributed this victory to the development work carried out under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past ten years. Dhami emphasized that Modi's government has provided strong and stable governance with welfare measures benefiting various segments of society including youth, women, farmers, and the poor. He also thanked the people of Uttarakhand for their overwhelming support towards BJP and Modi's leadership.

The "double engine" government—a term used to describe the same party ruling both at the state and central levels—was credited by Dhami for propelling development in Uttarakhand. With this resounding win, BJP aims to further accelerate growth and development initiatives in the state.
