BJP Slams Kejriwal for Forsaking 'Common Man's Politics' for Luxury
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its critique of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, labeling him as a significant deceit in the political landscape. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, a senior figure within the BJP, directed sharp criticisms towards Kejriwal, accusing him of deviating from his initial promises of engaging in politics that would serve the common man, only to end up living lavishly.

Puri also addressed Kejriwal's comments on the BJP's prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, suggesting that the AAP national convenor should focus more on his and his party's standing. Highlighting Kejriwal's current legal challenges, Puri pointed out that despite being on interim bail, Kejriwal might soon find himself back in custody. "I think when he goes to the people of Delhi in the next 48 hours, they will ask him if he remembers the liquor scam he had committed," Puri stated, referencing allegations of corrupt practices linked to the opening of liquor stores near educational and religious institutions.
Further elaborating on his accusations, Puri criticized Kejriwal's transformation from an anti-corruption crusader to a politician who enjoys the trappings of power. "Kejriwal had first said he would carry out a movement against corruption and never join politics. Then, he said he would do common man's politics, wear a muffler, ride a WagonR, and never have a lal batti on his car...then he started living in a sheesh mahal," Puri remarked.
The discussion also veered towards Kejriwal's potential plans for the leadership of his party, with Puri questioning whether Kejriwal was preparing to pass the baton to his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, due to his inability to take responsibility.
Arvind Kejriwal's legal troubles stem from his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case tied to an alleged excise policy scam. However, he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on Friday, providing him a temporary reprieve from incarceration.
This confrontation between the BJP and AAP underscores the heated political environment in Delhi, with both parties gearing up for an intense battle in the forthcoming elections. The allegations and counter-allegations are indicative of the broader challenges facing Indian politics today, where questions of accountability and corruption remain hotly debated topics.
