BJP corporator, husband booked for demanding bribe

, May 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has booked a

corporator from Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation in Thane district and her husband for allegedly demanding bribe from a complainant.

On April 27, corporator Maya Haresh Chawla demanded Rs 2 lakhs from Rajkumar Kukreja for halting the construction work being carried out in front of his barrack, an official from the Thane unit of ACB said today.

Her husband Haresh Varadmal Chawla was also booked for abetment of the crime, he said. An offence was registered with the Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar yesterday against the couple under sections 4 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the official said.

No arrest has been made so far in connection with the offence, he said, adding that further investigation was on.
