The Thane police have registered an FIR against a BJP corporator for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman. Daya Gaikwad, corporator for Kalyan (West) was accused of rape by a 27-year-old woman from Thane.
The BJP leader has been booked under IPC sections 376, 323, 504, 506, 34 but is yet to be arrested. Gaikwad is also the former chairman of the education department of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation. The FIR comes days after the woman approached the Thane police leveling allegations against the corporator. In her complaint, she alleged that Gaikwad sexually exploited her with a promise of marriage but kept his marital status under wraps.
Soon after the allegations were leveled, the coporator told the media that the woman was an extortionist who had demanded Rs 10 lakh and filed a case after he refused to pay up. The woman also accused Nationalist Congress Party's women's wing chief of recording the act. In her complaint, the woman has claimed that she met Gaikwad on a social networking site in June. She claimed he took her to a lodge at Titwala on June 7 where he raped her. She claimed that Gaikwad also raped her at a resort on June 16 after which she learned that he was married.
