BJP Calls Rahul Gandhi 'Modern Age Mir Jafar' For Echoing Pakistan's Narrative

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vehemently opposing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's comments on Operation Sindoor. The BJP's critique stems from Gandhi's skepticism about the government's narrative concerning the military operation, accusing him of parroting Pakistan's standpoint and compromising India's national security interests. The clash between India's major political entities highlights a broader discourse on patriotism and the scrutiny of military actions, maintaining national security as a pivotal electoral and public issue.

Gandhi's doubts surrounding the operation, specifically questioning the loss of Indian aircraft, prompted a swift response from the BJP.

Amit Malviya, the BJP IT Cell head, took to X (formerly Twitter) to label Gandhi as the "modern age Mir Jafar," insinuating betrayal towards Indian interests. Malviya's denunciation extends to accusing Gandhi of providing ammunition to those backing cross-border terrorism, as his criticisms align with narratives pushed by Pakistani media. This accusation underscores a deep-rooted concern within the BJP regarding the portrayal of India's military efforts and the potential for internal criticisms to bolster adversarial narratives.

Operation Sindoor, executed by the Indian Air Force on May 6-7, 2025, aimed to dismantle terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following a terror attack in Pahalgam. The Indian government emphasized the operation targeted only terrorist infrastructure, avoiding civilian and Pakistani military sites. The Directorate General of Military Operations (DGMO) confirmed the operation's accuracy and success, stating no Indian aircraft or personnel were compromised. Despite these affirmations, Gandhi's queries about the operation's outcomes have ignited a political firestorm, with the BJP accusing him of disregarding India's military achievements.

The BJP's retaliation against Gandhi did not stop at verbal rebukes. In a move to visually symbolize their disapproval, BJP social media channels shared a manipulated image merging Gandhi's face with that of Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir. This symbolic gesture serves to amplify the BJP's narrative that Gandhi's comments are tantamount to echoing Pakistan's rhetoric. Furthermore, the BJP criticizes Gandhi for not recognizing the strategic victories of Operation Sindoor, instead focusing on aspects that cast doubt on India's military assertions.

In the wake of Gandhi's controversial stance, other political voices have joined the fray. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi have both critiqued Gandhi's approach to discussing national security matters. BRS spokesperson Dr. Krishank chastised Gandhi for publicizing sensitive issues on social platforms instead of confidential settings, urging him to bolster Indian perspectives. Similarly, Joshi rebuked Gandhi for disrespecting the Indian armed forces, highlighting the clarity provided by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding the non-loss of Indian jets during the operation.
