BJP blessing Dalits by going to their house, like Lord Ram blessed Shabri: Rajendra Pratap

By Deepika

Uttar Pradesh Minister Rajendra Pratap on Wednesday made a very controversial statement, which is likely to put him in trouble. In an attempt to praise the recent attempts by BJP leaders of 'luring' Dalits, Pratap compared BJP leaders with Lord Ram.

Pratap compared leaders with Lord Ram saying "the way lord Ram blessed Shabri by eating her berries, similarly BJP leaders bless Dalits by going to their houses".

Singh was addressing a chaupal at Gadhmau village in Badagaon Block of Jhansi district and gave the statement before he was to go for dinner at a Dalit's house.

Recently, a Dalit BJP MP has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath misbehaved with him.

Chhote Lal Kharwar, a Dalit MP who represents Uttar Pradesh's Robertsganj constituency in Parliament, wrote a letter to Modi and said that he met Adityanath twice but was "scolded and thrown out" of his office.

The violent protest by Dalit groups, particularly in the Hindu heartland, against the alleged reluctance and delay by the government in filling a review petition in Supreme Court against the latter's March 20 order that called for changes in the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 showed the extent of Dalit anger against the BJP government.
