BJP Announces Gujarat Cabinet Reshuffle, 16 Ministers Step Down

In a significant political development, all 16 ministers of the Gujarat cabinet, except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, resigned on October 16, 2025, paving the way for a major reshuffle and an expanded, reconstituted state government. The swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet is scheduled for October 17 at 12:39 pm at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.

The resignations include eight cabinet-rank ministers and eight ministers of state, all accepted by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This sweeping change comes just months ahead of critical local body elections in Gujarat, indicating the BJP's strategy to infuse new energy and broaden representation within the state leadership.

The expanded council of ministers is expected to include 22-23 members, with several new faces likely to be inducted to represent key social groups and strengthen the party's prospects for the 2027 Assembly elections. Ministers such as Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Rishikesh Patel, Mukesh Patel, and Bhupendrasinh Chudasama are expected to retain their positions, while others, including Kanubhai Desai and Kunvarji Bavaliya, may be replaced.

The reshuffle represents one of the largest structural changes in recent years and reflects efforts to tackle challenges posed by the growing influence of parties like AAP and changing voter dynamics across rural and urban Gujarat. With a focus on OBC, Patidar, and Saurashtra region representation, the BJP aims to consolidate its stronghold, reward performance, and enhance inclusivity in governance ahead of upcoming elections.

The oath-taking ceremony will also be attended by senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, highlighting the significance of this major cabinet reorganization.
