BJP Unveils List of West Bengal Nominees for Upcoming Lok Sabha Polls

In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its list of 19 candidates, bringing to the forefront a mix of political stalwarts and new faces. Among the notable names are former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Sandeshkali's Rekha Patra, and the state's former BJP chief, Dilip Ghosh. This announcement follows the earlier release of candidates for 20 seats on March 2, aiming to strengthen the party's foothold in the state's 42 Lok Sabha constituencies.

BJPs West Bengal Lok Sabha List

Dilip Ghosh, a key figure credited with the BJP's ascendancy in West Bengal, is set to contest from the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat. His tenure as state BJP chief from December 2015 to October 2021 saw the party securing 18 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 and 77 assembly seats in 2021. Known for his candidness, Ghosh's shift from the Medinipur constituency to Bardhaman-Durgapur, previously held by Surendra Singh Ahluwalia, marks a strategic electoral move by the BJP.

Rekha Patra: Symbol of Resilience

Rekha Patra's candidacy from Basirhat is perhaps one of the most poignant decisions by the BJP, highlighting her as a symbol of resilience against political violence. A housewife from Sandeshkhali, Patra became a vocal protester following her alleged torture by associates of a now-suspended TMC leader. Her plight and that of other Sandeshkhali women were brought to Prime Minister Modi's attention during a meeting on March 6, showcasing her as a significant figure in the BJP's campaign narrative.

Abhijit Gangopadhyay: The Legal Luminary

Former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, renowned for his expedited judgments on corruption cases, has been fielded from Tamluk. His entry into politics with the BJP earlier this month after resigning as a judge adds a layer of legal gravitas to the party's candidate roster. Tamluk, a stronghold of Suvendu Adhikari and his family, will witness an interesting contest as Gangopadhyay takes on the challenge in this critical constituency.

Arjun Singh: The Comeback

Arjun Singh's nomination for Barrackpore is another highlight of the BJP's candidate list. Known for his influence in North 24 Parganas, Singh had previously won this seat on a BJP ticket in 2019. His brief return to TMC in 2022 and subsequent comeback to BJP after being denied a ticket from Barrackpore underscores the dynamic political shifts and strategies at play in West Bengal politics.

The BJP's selection of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal reflects a blend of strategic placements and symbolic gestures aimed at consolidating its presence and challenging its rivals in the state. With figures like Ghosh, Patra, Gangopadhyay, and Singh leading the charge, the party is gearing up for what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral battle.
