BJP-AJSU Alliance Wins 9 Seats in Jharkhand Amid Tribal Seat Setbacks

In a surprising turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party, faced a setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand. The alliance, which had previously dominated the 2019 polls by securing 12 seats, saw a reduction in their tally to nine this year. This shift marks a significant change in the political landscape of Jharkhand, highlighting the dynamic nature of voter preferences and regional politics.

BJP-AJSU Wins 9 in Jharkhand

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance emerged victorious in all five tribal constituencies - Khunti, Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Rajmahal, and Dumka. This victory is particularly noteworthy as it represents a major defeat for the BJP in areas that were considered crucial for their electoral strategy. The JMM's performance was especially strong in Singhbhum, Rajmahal, and Dumka, where their candidates won by substantial margins.

In Singhbhum, JMM's Joba Majhi secured a victory by an impressive margin of 1.68 lakh votes against Geeta Kora of the BJP. Kora, who joined the BJP just before the elections, was previously the lone Congress MP from Jharkhand in 2019. Similarly, JMM's Vijay Hansdak and Nalin Soren won the Rajmahal and Dumka seats with margins of 1.78 lakh and 22,527 votes respectively, defeating their BJP rivals.

On the other hand, the Congress party managed to win Khunti and Lohardaga constituencies, delivering a significant blow to Union minister Arjun Munda and BJP's Samir Oraon. Munda was defeated by Congress's Kalicharan Munda by a margin of 1.49 lakh votes in Khunti, while Sukhdeo Bhagat of Congress won Lohardaga by defeating Oraon by 1.39 lakh votes.

Despite these losses, the BJP did secure victories in several constituencies. Kali Charan Singh won Chatra with a margin of 2.20 lakh votes against Congress's K N Tripathi. Bidyut Baran Mahato retained Jamshedpur for the BJP by defeating JMM's Samir Kumar Mohanty with a margin of 2.59 lakh votes. Other notable victories for the BJP included Annapurna Devi in Koderma, Manish Jaiswal in Hazaribag, and Sanjay Seth in Ranchi.

The AJSU Party also contributed to the NDA's tally by winning the Giridih seat with Chandraprakash Choudhary defeating JMM's Mathura Mahato by 80,880 votes. Additionally, Nishikant Dubey retained Godda for the BJP by defeating Congress's Pradeep Yadav with a margin of 1.01 lakh votes.

These election results reflect a complex interplay of regional dynamics and shifting voter allegiances in Jharkhand. While the BJP-AJSU alliance has experienced setbacks in key tribal areas, their overall performance across the state demonstrates resilience and adaptability in face of changing political currents.
