Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on Ambedkar.
Rahul Targets Amit Shah
Gandhi accused the BJP of opposing Ambedkar's ideology and attempting to undermine the Constitution. "They are against Ambedkar ji and his ideology," he stated, adding that their goal is to dismantle Ambedkar's work.

Ambedkar Remarks Controversy & Criticisms
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray also condemned the BJP and Amit Shah for allegedly disrespecting Ambedkar. Thackeray questioned whether BJP allies like Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, or Ajit Pawar would support such remarks. He further asked if Ramdas Athawale would remain in the cabinet despite these statements.
Amit Shah Slams Congress
Amit Shah had earlier criticised Congress, suggesting it had become fashionable for them to invoke Ambedkar's name. He remarked, "If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar then they would have got heaven for seven lives." This statement sparked widespread political backlash.
PM Modi Defends Amit Shah
Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended Amit Shah's remarks about Babasaheb Ambedkar. Modi claimed that Shah revealed Congress' history of disrespecting Ambedkar, which left them unsettled by the facts presented. Modi argued that Congress had long ignored Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities while in power.
In a series of posts on X, PM Modi accused Congress of failing to empower SC/ST communities during their tenure. He highlighted that significant atrocities against these communities occurred under Congress rule. Modi asserted that despite Congress' efforts to deny it, people are aware of this truth.
Ambedkar Historically Neglected
The Prime Minister accused Congress of historical neglect toward Dr. Ambedkar, citing several grievances. These included twice defeating him in elections, Pandit Nehru campaigning against him, denying him the Bharat Ratna, and omitting his portrait from Parliament's Central Hall.
