BJP Demands Kejriwal's Resignation; AAP Retaliates Against PM Modi Outside Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, March 27 - The political atmosphere in the capital intensified as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) engaged in protests on the Delhi Assembly premises. The BJP MLAs demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case. Simultaneously, AAP legislators and supporters voiced their opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP vs AAP: Clash Over Resignations

The BJP's demonstration saw its members marching with placards near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the assembly grounds, while AAP representatives, donning yellow T-shirts, countered with slogans against Modi. Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri called for Kejriwal's resignation, citing multiple allegations of corruption and questioning the withdrawal of what he referred to as a "world-class" excise policy. He emphasized that Kejriwal's continuation in office contradicts moral and constitutional values.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva led a protest at the assembly entrance, where around 100 party workers expressed their discontent with the current government. The demonstration saw Sachdeva climbing the gate amidst slogan shouting, leading to the detention of protesters by security personnel who had locked the main gate.

On the other side, AAP MLAs staged a protest demanding Kejriwal's immediate release from ED custody. The protest featured effigy burning and an MLA portraying himself in chains to symbolize what was described as oppressive tactics by the Modi government against democratic principles. Delhi minister Atishi criticized the arrest as an attack on democracy and questioned how opposition parties could contest elections under such circumstances.

Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP of dictatorship and highlighted alleged attempts to pressure AAP MLAs and destabilize the Delhi government. He warned of a nationwide backlash against Kejriwal's arrest. The AAP national convener was taken into ED custody on March 21, with a court remanding him till March 28.

The protests underscore a deepening political rift in Delhi, with both parties standing firm on their positions. As these events unfold, they reflect broader tensions within Indian politics, showcasing a clash between governance and opposition amidst allegations of corruption and authoritarianism.
