BJD Sets Legislative Strategies Ahead of Odisha Assembly Session

Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik urged BJD legislators to effectively advocate for people's rights. This call to action came ahead of the assembly session starting on July 22. Patnaik presided over the BJD’s legislature party meeting, where strategies for the upcoming session were discussed.

BJDs Pre-Session Strategy Meet

Patnaik highlighted that the people of Odisha have entrusted the BJD with a new role as the opposition party. He emphasized the need for BJD MLAs to be proactive in addressing key issues. The first session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on July 22, with all 51 BJD MLAs attending the preparatory meeting.

Key Issues to be Addressed

BJD legislators plan to raise several pressing issues during the assembly session. These include the ongoing price rise of essential items and alleged mismanagement during Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra. Additionally, concerns about law and order, an assault on a government servant at Puri Raj Bhavan, and a communal riot in Balasore will be brought up.

The BJD president also instructed party MLAs to ensure full attendance in the House proceedings. Patnaik stressed the importance of safeguarding the interests of Odisha and its 4.5 crore residents. He advised legislators to seek clarification from the state government regarding BJP’s promise of providing free electricity up to 300 units to households starting in July.

Preparations for Assembly Session

BJD chief whip Pramila Mallik and deputy chief whip Pratap Keshari Deb briefed reporters after the meeting. They mentioned that Patnaik discussed various issues that need to be raised during the upcoming assembly session. The focus is on ensuring that the party's concerns are effectively communicated in the House.

Meanwhile, Speaker Surama Padhy has scheduled an all-party meeting on July 21. This meeting is set ahead of the budget session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly to discuss procedural matters and ensure smooth functioning during the session.

The assembly session is expected to be a platform for robust discussions on critical issues affecting Odisha. The opposition BJD aims to hold the government accountable while advocating for solutions that benefit the people.
