BJD Junks Claims Of Power Purchase Deal With Gautam Adani's Company

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has clarified that the 2021 power purchase agreement in Odisha was strictly between government entities SECI and Gridco. This statement comes amidst allegations involving the Adani group. The BJD insists that these claims are unfounded, asserting that no private parties were involved in the agreement.

Deputy Chief Pratap Keshari Deb stated, "The agreement was to procure 500MW of renewable energy from SECI at the lowest rates discovered by SECI and it was between two government entities. There was no engagement with any private party whatsoever, including the Adani group." This statement aims to address concerns raised by recent media reports.

Renewable Energy Commitment

The BJD further explained that Odisha has been sourcing renewable energy from central government PSUs like SECI and NTPC since 2011. This long-standing practice underscores their commitment to sustainable energy solutions without involving private companies like the Adani group.

In response to accusations from the BJP regarding alleged bribes linked to Gautam Adani, the BJD reiterated its stance. They emphasized that only government bodies were part of this transaction, dismissing any claims of private sector involvement as baseless.

Media Allegations Addressed

The media release highlighted that the power purchase agreement's sole purpose was to ensure a steady supply of renewable energy for Odisha. By collaborating with SECI and Gridco, both government entities, they aimed to meet their energy needs efficiently and transparently.

This clarification seeks to dispel any doubts about the integrity of the agreement process. The BJD remains firm in its position that no private entity, including the Adani group, played a role in this specific power purchase deal.

By addressing these allegations head-on, the BJD aims to maintain transparency and trust with the public. Their focus remains on fulfilling Odisha's renewable energy commitments through established partnerships with central government agencies.
