‘Biking Queens’ travel from Gujarat to J&K to promote Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign

A group of Gujarat women bikers travel across India to promote safety and education of girl children.

Srinagar, August 23: They are the "Biking Queens" from Surat, Gujarat, who love their 'mean machines' to the hilt. It is their love for bikes coupled with their zeal to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet campaign-- Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save girl child, educate girl child)--which encouraged these women to take a pan-India journey.

On Tuesday, the bikers' group, with 35-odd women participants, reached Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir. They were received by none other than deputy chief minister of J&K, Nirmal Kumar Singh.

During their stay in Jammu, the women bikers stressed on the need to save girl children from getting killed in the fetus of their mothers. The bikers also spoke about why educating girl children is of outmost importance if India wants to be a superpower.

As a part of their Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao awareness campaign, "Biking Queens" have already visited various states, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, to name a few places.

"We love our bikes. So, do we are passionate about women's rights issues. Thus we thought of taking a bike journey covering various parts of the country and promoting PM Modi's pet project, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, a social campaign that will change the fate of millions of Indian women," said a biker from the team.

She added, "It's high time we educate and empower our women. Women are no less than men and it has been proven by us as we take an arduous journey all on our own in bikes."

When asked if they have experienced any untoward incident as they travelled hundreds of kilometers, the women bikers said that safety was an issue, but thankfully they did have any bitter experience so far.

Thus the women bikers also want the roads of India to be safe for women.
