Bihar Voter ID Blunder: Woman Receives Card with CM Nitish Kumar’s Photo Instead of Her Own

A strange incident has surfaced in Bihar during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls by the Election Commission of India (ECI). As part of this pre-election exercise ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, voter lists are being updated across the state. However, one case in Madhepura district has sparked widespread attention and raised serious concerns.

A woman's voter ID card, issued as part of the ECI's revision process, has gone viral - not for incorrect personal details, but because it bears a photograph of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar instead of her own.

The incident came to light on Wednesday during the Bihar Bandh, when Chandan Kumar, a resident of Jaypal Patti in the Madhepura municipal area, revealed the error to the media. Kumar said his wife, Abhilasha Kumari, received her voter ID around two and a half months ago through the local post office. While all the information on the card - including name, age, and address - was correct, the photograph on the card appeared to be that of CM Nitish Kumar.

Speaking to reporters, Kumar added that he immediately reported the issue to the local Booth Level Officer (BLO). However, instead of action, he was allegedly told to keep the matter under wraps and not raise it publicly.

"This is a serious error. A Chief Minister's photo appearing on a woman's voter ID is not just a mistake - it's gross negligence," Kumar said, adding that such lapses undermine the credibility of the voter registration process.

The incident has triggered widespread discussions on social media and among political circles. Many have questioned the quality control mechanisms in place during the voter ID issuance process and raised concerns about possible lapses in data handling.

As the state heads toward elections, the Election Commission has come under the spotlight for ensuring transparency, accuracy, and public trust in its electoral roll revision process.
