The Bihar government has embarked on an ambitious plan to transform the urban landscape of the state by preparing master plans for the comprehensive development of 100 cities. This significant initiative was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary during a session of the state assembly on Wednesday.
Samrat Ashok Convention Centres to be Constructed
In addition to the master plan initiative, the government also plans to construct Samrat Ashok Convention Centres in all urban local bodies across Bihar. These convention centres aim to provide modern and well-equipped facilities for various events and gatherings, enhancing the infrastructure of the state's urban areas.
Master Plans for Urban Development
Chaudhary, who holds the portfolios of finance, urban development, and housing, emphasized the importance of master plans in guiding the growth and development of cities. He explained that these plans will identify suitable locations for the development of housing colonies, parks, industries, and drainage systems, ensuring a holistic approach to urban planning.
Revitalizing Circuit Houses and Town Halls
Recognizing the historical significance of Circuit Houses and Town Halls constructed during the British era, the government intends to restore and revitalize these structures. However, due to their current dilapidated condition, the government has decided to construct Samrat Ashok Convention Centres/halls in all local urban bodies, providing modern and functional venues for various events.
Urban Development in Bihar
Bihar comprises 139 statutory towns, 60 census towns, and 14 urban cities, spread across 38 districts. The state also encompasses 251 Urban Local Bodies. The overall responsibility for urban development in Bihar lies with the state Urban Development and Housing Department.
Bihar Assembly Approves Budget Bill
During the same assembly session, the Bihar Assembly unanimously passed the Bihar Appropriation No. 2, Bill, 2024, approving the allocation of Rs. 2.82 lakh crore from the state's consolidated fund for various services during the financial year ending on March 31, 2025.
