Bihar: Tata-Chhapra express looted while guards hid

Jamui, Jan 5: Four sleeper compartments of the Tata-Chhapra Express were looted by 15 armed men around midnight in Bihar's Jamui district. Cash, jewellery and gold were looted from the passengers. The incident took place close to the Kiul railway station in Jamui. This is considered to be a sensitive route as few instances of robberies have taken place last week only.

Meanwhile, the passengers complained that the guards on duty hid themselves, instead of fighting the robbers. The railway police that arrived 30 minutes later fired 12 rounds of bullets, but the robbers managed to escape.

On Friday, a jawan was shot dead and another was critically injured on board an express train, passing through Munger district as they tried fighting robbers. Similarly on Dec 29, 2014, a gang of robbers looted passengers of valuables worth lakhs of rupees inside the Jharkhand-bound Patliputra Express, after holding it along the Bihar-Jharkhand border.
