Lalu Prasad's Daughters Among RJD Nominees for Bihar Lok Sabha Polls
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has recently made a significant announcement regarding its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. As a key player in the opposition Mahagathbandhan, the RJD has unveiled its nominees for 22 out of the 23 seats it is contesting. Among the notable candidates are Lalu Prasad's daughters, Rohini Acharya and Misa Bharti, marking a continuation of the family's political legacy.

Rohini Acharya is set to contest from Saran, a constituency with deep ties to her father, Lalu Prasad, who won the seat multiple times before his disqualification in 2013 due to a conviction in a fodder scam. Misa Bharti, currently serving her second term in the Rajya Sabha, will contest from the Patliputra Lok Sabha constituency, aiming to strengthen her political foothold.
The RJD's candidate selection process has been comprehensive, covering a wide range of constituencies across Bihar. Notably, the party has yet to announce its candidate for Siwan, a seat previously contested by late Mohd Shahubuddin and his widow Heena Shahab. The delay in announcement hints at internal considerations within the party and its alliance dynamics.
As part of the Mahagathbandhan seat-sharing arrangement, the RJD retains a significant portion of Bihar's Lok Sabha seats, with 26 allocated to it. The Congress and Left parties have been allotted nine and five seats respectively. Additionally, an agreement with former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahni's Vikashsheel Insaan Party has led to three seats being allocated from the RJD's quota.
The list of RJD candidates includes a mix of seasoned politicians and new faces. Sudhakar Singh from Buxar, Ali Asharaf Fatmi from Madhubani, Surendra Prasad from Jehanabad, and Anita Kumari Mahto from Munger are among those nominated. The inclusion of Anita Kumari Mahto is particularly noteworthy due to her marriage to Ashok Mahto, a convicted gangster with political aspirations.
Other candidates such as Kumar Sarvjeet from Gaya, Shrawan Kumar Kushwaha from Nawada, Bima Bharti from Purnea, and Archana Ravidass from Jamui have already filed their nominations. The RJD's strategic candidate selection reflects its efforts to maintain a strong presence across Bihar.
The Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are scheduled to take place in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. With a diverse slate of candidates and strategic alliances in place, the RJD aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming elections as part of its broader efforts to challenge the ruling coalition.
