In Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, a disturbing incident came to light when the police were caught on camera disposing of the remains of an accident victim in a canal.

The video footage, captured by a passerby, revealed two police officers dragging the blood-soaked body of a man when a third policeman accompanies to help, then they can be seen using their batons to push a package into the canal. Reportedly, the incident took place near the Dhodhi Canal Bridge in the Fakuli OP area in Muzaffarpur.

Following the widespread circulation of this video, action was swiftly taken against the involved officers.

A senior officer from the local police acknowledged the lapse and explained that only the body parts that couldn't be salvaged were disposed of in the canal. He stated, "It was a very bad accident, and all the body parts could not be retrieved. This is why the police had disposed of them in the canal." as reported by NDTV

While admitting the inhumanity of the act, he clarified that the parts that could be recovered had been sent for postmortem. Unfortunately, the identity of the victim remains unknown. "The parts that could be salvaged were sent for postmortem... The man is yet to be identified," the officer was quoted saying.

Efforts were made to rectify the situation, with the body being retrieved from the canal and placed in the morgue for proper handling.

Rakesh Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarpur, expressed shock at the incident and announced that the driver constable involved had been suspended, while the contracts of two Home Guard jawans on duty had been terminated.

"This incident is shocking and we have suspended the driver constable and terminated the contract of two Home Guard jawans on duty," Kumar was quoted saying.
