Bihar Police Constables Injured During Liquor Mafia Attack in Katihar District
In Bihar's Katihar district, two policemen were injured during an altercation with supporters of individuals allegedly involved in illegal liquor activities. The incident occurred on October 8, when constables Gulshan Kumar and Ritesh Kumar, part of the Dial 112 unit, attempted to arrest Rajesh Kumar Chouhan. Chouhan was suspected of engaging in illicit liquor trade.

Upon their arrival at Bheria Rahika Gaushala, the constables were met with hostility. Supporters of Chouhan began throwing stones at them, forcing the officers to retreat. Despite their injuries, they managed to escape and reach the nearest police station. Their police bike was damaged by the mob during the incident.
Arrests and Investigation
The local police responded promptly, arriving at the scene to apprehend several individuals involved in the attack. So far, 11 people have been arrested, including Chouhan, who is considered the main suspect. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to gather more information.
Bihar has enforced a ban on alcohol sale and consumption since April 2016. This prohibition has led to various challenges for law enforcement as they tackle illegal liquor operations across the state. The recent attack highlights the risks faced by police officers in enforcing this law.
The injured constables were taken to a hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. The district police have assured that both officers are out of danger and recovering well from their injuries.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. They aim to identify all individuals involved and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law. The situation underscores the ongoing struggle against illegal liquor trade in Bihar.
