Bihar News : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Announces 299 Interstate Buses to Manage Festive Rush Ahead of 2025 Elections
In a bid to enhance travel for migrant workers, Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has launched 299 new interstate buses ahead of the festive season. This initiative aims to provide affordable and seamless travel across major routes, supporting seasonal migration during key festivals.
In a significant move aimed at easing travel for migrant workers and boosting connectivity during the upcoming festive season, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced the launch of 299 new interstate buses. The announcement comes just months ahead of the 2025 state assembly elections, reflecting the government's effort to strengthen public transport infrastructure.

The initiative, part of a broader state transport enhancement plan, was inaugurated at an event held at Patna’s historic Miller High School Ground. The Chief Minister flagged off the new buses in the presence of senior officials from the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) and the Transport Department.
With the festive season around the corner, Nitish Kumar emphasized the need to support the massive seasonal migration of people to and from Bihar. These 299 buses are expected to provide seamless and affordable travel across major routes connecting Bihar to states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal — especially during Chhath Puja, Diwali, and Dussehra.
"In every major festival, there is a surge in the number of passengers wanting to return to their hometowns. This initiative will reduce their travel challenges and ensure they reach home safely and on time," said the Chief Minister during his address.
Transport officials confirmed that the ticket prices will remain reasonable, aligned with government norms, ensuring affordability for the working-class population. The buses will run under the banner of BSRTC, and online booking facilities are expected to be introduced soon to improve accessibility.
Focus on Clean Energy and Safety
The new fleet also includes several CNG and low-emission vehicles, reinforcing the state’s commitment to greener mobility. Each bus is equipped with GPS systems, CCTV cameras, and emergency helplines, aiming to enhance both safety and real-time monitoring.
Political Significance
The announcement is being viewed as a strategic move ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. Nitish Kumar, who has consistently focused on infrastructure and governance reforms, is expected to campaign heavily on improved public services and connectivity. As the state gears up for the electoral season, initiatives like this are likely to play a central role in shaping voter sentiment, particularly among Bihar’s massive migrant worker population.
