Bihar News: Driving Innovation, Skills, and Industrial Growth: Secretary Kundan Kumar Visits IIT Patna, FDDI Bihta & Hero Cycles Unit

Bihar's push to boost innovation, skill development, and manufacturing gains momentum after a multi-site visit by the Industries Department. The tour highlighted IIT Patna's startup ecosystem, FDDI Bihta's practical training focus, and Hero Cycles' expanding production, signaling stronger industry-academia collaboration and policy support.

In a major push to strengthen Bihar's innovation ecosystem, skill development framework, and industrial growth, Industries Department Secretary Kundan Kumar conducted a comprehensive visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) Bihta, and the Hero Cycles Limited manufacturing unit.

During his visit to the incubation centre at IIT Patna, Kundan Kumar reviewed the rapidly evolving startup and innovation landscape on campus. He toured advanced facilities including the PCB Development Lab, Testing & Calibration Lab, Mechanical Lab, Clean Room, and BioNest Lab, which are playing a key role in transforming innovative ideas into market-ready solutions.

He also interacted with startup founders, gaining insights into their entrepreneurial journeys and exploring innovations across sectors such as technology, healthcare, electronics, manufacturing, and deep-tech. His discussions with IIT Patna Director Prof. T. N. Singh focused on strengthening industry-academia collaboration, enhancing support systems, and creating robust pathways for startup growth in Bihar.

Focus on Skill Development at FDDI Bihta

At FDDI Bihta, the Secretary emphasized Bihar's commitment to skill development and manufacturing excellence. He reviewed student projects, appreciated their creativity, and discussed industry practices with officials.

Highlighting the importance of practical training, he stressed that workshops and hands-on learning are essential for improving employability among youth. He also announced that the Department of Industries is planning to establish a Leather Footwear Accessories Park, which will further strengthen the state's manufacturing ecosystem.

Industrial Growth Gains Momentum with Hero Cycles

Kundan Kumar also visited the Hero Cycles Limited manufacturing unit in Bihta, spread over 7 acres and currently generating around 500 employment opportunities. The unit is emerging as a key contributor to Bihar's growing industrial base.

During the visit, he reviewed production processes, operational efficiency, and overall performance. He engaged with the management to understand challenges, explore expansion opportunities, and provide actionable suggestions to enhance productivity and growth.
