Bihar Heading For Maharashtra-Like Political Crisis: Ramdas Athawale

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Monday said that Bihar is heading for Maharashtra-like political crisis as JD(U) MLAs are upset with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He also said that leaders from Akhilesh Yadav's SP will join the NDA soon.

"A similar situation (like currently in Maharashtra) can arise in Bihar soon as some JD(U) MLAs are upset with Nitish Kumar. In UP, Jayant Chaudhary can join with NDA as is currently upset with Akhilesh Yadav. There is a possibility that differences arise between MLAs of the Samajwadi Party," ANI quoted Ramdas Athawale, MP of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and Union Minister, as saying.

In a surprising turn of events, Ajith and eight other NCP MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government. This comes at a time when the opposition parties were trying to put their political differences aside to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar has vowed to build the NCP, which has been hit hard by the defections. "Today, in Maharashtra and the country, a rift is being created between the society in the name of caste and religion by some groups... My fight is against communal forces, I will rebuild the party," Hindustan Times quoted Sharad Pawar as saying at an event on Monday.

The NCP supremo visited the memorial of his mentor and Maharashtra's first chief minister Yashwantrao Chavan in Karad and paid floral tributes to him.

Earlier in an interview, Pawar on Monday said that "there is no problem" in the family despite his nephew Ajith leading the rebels to join the NDA.

"There's no problem in the family. We don't discuss politics in the family. Everyone takes their own decision," NDTV quoted him as saying in an exclusive interview. The NCP chief stated that he has not contacted any MLA since Sunday's unexpected development.

"I didn't approach anybody since yesterday. I haven't contacted anybody. I am just leaving now for Satara," he said.
