In a significant operation late Wednesday night, a notorious gangster from Bihar, carrying a reward of Rs 2.25 lakh on his head, was fatally shot in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district. This event marked the culmination of a joint effort by the Special Task Forces (STFs) of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The encounter took place in the Ratanpuri area, as confirmed by officials.

Nilesh Rai, originating from Begusarai district in Bihar, was implicated in 16 criminal cases, including murder, loot, and extortion. Amitabh Yash, Additional Direction General of Police UP STF and Law and Order, detailed the criminal's history and the circumstances leading to the encounter. According to Yash, the operation was a coordinated effort between the UP STF's Noida Unit and the Bihar STF.
The confrontation with Rai and his associates occurred within the jurisdiction of the Ratanpuri police station. Despite being severely injured during the encounter and subsequently hospitalized for treatment, Rai succumbed to his injuries. His demise brings an end to a lengthy criminal career that had law enforcement on high alert.
Yash also recounted an incident on February 24, when Rai evaded capture by opening fire on a police team during a raid at his hideout in Begusarai. The gunfire resulted in serious injuries to one individual. Following this encounter, further legal proceedings are underway as authorities continue to address the ramifications of Rai's criminal activities.
This operation underscores the ongoing collaboration between state law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime and bring high-profile criminals to justice. The successful joint action of the UP and Bihar STFs highlights their commitment to maintaining law and order across state lines.
