Bihar Chief Minister Apologises For His Remarks On Population Control

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar issued an apology following a significant controversy sparked by his comments on the importance of women's education to control the population.

Nitish Kumar, while stressing the importance of education among women to control the population, delivered a detailed description in the state assembly of how an educated woman can influence her husband's behavior during sexual intercourse.

"In the past, a husband's actions led to higher birth rates. However, an educated woman knows how to exercise control, which is why we are witnessing a decline in the number of births," Nitish Kumar expressed in a colloquial manner.

He also addressed the journalists present, stating, "You, journalists, understand it well. The fertility rate was 4.3, but now it has dropped to 2.9. Soon, we will achieve a rate of 2," in the Bihar assembly.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) strongly criticized Kumar's recent statements in the Vidhan Sabha, denouncing them as regressive and disrespectful to women's rights and choices. The NCW called for an immediate and unreserved apology from the Bihar Chief Minister, with NCW chief Rekha Sharma taking to social media to make the demand.

"On behalf of every woman in this country, as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, I demand an immediate and unequivocal apology from the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar. His offensive remarks in the Vidhan Sabha demean the dignity and respect every woman deserves. Such derogatory language used during his speech casts a dark shadow on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the state's plight under his leadership. We firmly oppose such behavior and call for accountability," Sharma wrote on Tuesday.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Kumar of "bringing shame" to the women of the state by discussing the procreation process in explicit detail. BJP MLAs Gayatri Devi and Sweety Hembram expressed their concern, suggesting that the chief minister, in his advanced age, seemed to have lost all sense of propriety.
