Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: Prashant Kishor Promises Rs 2000 To Every Senior Citizen
Prashant Kishor, leader of the Jan Suraaj Party, has made a significant election promise to Gaya residents before the Bihar Assembly elections. He pledged that individuals over 60 will receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,000. Additionally, children under 15 will be entitled to free education in private schools. This proposal is set to take effect from December 2025.
The Bihar Assembly elections are anticipated to occur at the end of this year. In preparation, Prashant Kishor's party is actively campaigning across the state. The Election Commission recently assigned the 'school bag' symbol to Jan Suraaj Party for these elections. The party plans to contest all 243 assembly seats using this symbol.

Bihar's Desire for Change
Last week, Prashant Kishor asserted that more than 60% of Bihar's population desires change. He expressed confidence that Nitish Kumar will not return as chief minister after the upcoming elections. A survey conducted by his team indicated that 62% of Biharis seek change in leadership.
Kishor mentioned that within two months, it will become clear whom these voters seeking change will support. He highlighted the uncertainty about whether they will back his new party or continue supporting established parties like Lalu Yadav's RJD and Congress.
Previous Election Outcomes
In the previous assembly elections, RJD emerged as the largest party within the 'Mahagathbandhan', contesting 144 seats and securing victory in 75. Bihar has a total of 243 assembly seats. Congress contested on 70 seats but managed to win only 19.
The CPI (ML), another alliance partner, contested on 19 seats and won 12. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured victory in 74 seats, while JDU won 43 seats. Reports suggest that the upcoming assembly elections might be held in October-November 2025.
The main question remains whether voters will choose Jan Suraaj Party or stick with traditional parties like RJD and Congress.
