Bhubaneswar Metro Project: DPR Submitted, First Phase to Cover 26 km with 20 Stations
The eagerly anticipated Metro rail project linking Bhubaneswar Airport and Trishulia, Cuttack, has achieved a significant milestone with the submission of its Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Odisha government on Wednesday.
According to the detailed plan, the first phase of this transformative metro rail venture will encompass an approximate distance of 26 kilometers and incorporate a total of 20 strategically located stations.

The responsibility of crafting the DPR was entrusted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Following rigorous processes such as traffic surveys, geo-technical investigations, topo-graphic surveys, as well as environmental and social impact assessments, DMRC successfully completed the DPR formulation. The completed report was officially submitted to Chief Secretary P K Jena in Bhubaneswar.
The Phase-I of the Bhubaneswar metro rail project will span key locations including Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapujinagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vanivihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square in Cuttack. This comprehensive coverage will encompass a total route length of 26 km, servicing 20 strategically positioned stations.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik granted approval for the metro rail project on April 1 of this year. Plans are underway to extend the project to encompass Khurdha, Puri, and other areas within Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city.
The establishment of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was officially notified on August 3, accompanied by the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager (Administration).
The designated areas for coverage include Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari, and Trishulia Square in Cuttack.
