Bengaluru rains: Pre-monsoon showers likely to continue for the next 48 hours

Karnataka capital Bengaluru and surrounding districts will likely witness pre-monsoon showers in the next 48 hours, which should provide relief from the rising temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a thunderstorm warning over some pockets of Karnataka for Thursday and Friday. Rain or thunder showers are very likely to occur at isolated places over the state over the next 48 hours, the met department said.

According to IMD Bengaluru, there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied with squall in the city today and similar conditions are expected to prevail till March 19.

"Partly cloudy sky in the morning hours becoming generally cloudy sky towards evening or night with possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied with squall," a city forecast stated.

This is because a trough starting from Tamil Nadu on the east coast has stretched its gangly limbs to North Konkan on the west. Due to its rainy influence, southern Karnataka will receive scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next few days, according to weather agency.

Scientist at IMD Bengaluru, A Prasad said,''We expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on March 17 and 18. There is a 50 to 60 per cent probability that there may be light to moderate storms in Bengaluru on these two days.''

The rainy intervention could dip daytime temperatures by a degree or two, but the mercury level may continue to touch 33°C.

It must be noted that on an average, Bengaluru gets close to 15 mm of rainfall in March and this increases to 65 mm by May.

On Thursday, the tech city did witness scattered thundershower activity.
