Bengaluru: Beware pedestrians, you might be arrested for jaywalking
Bengaluru, June 17: Police in Bengaluru arrested 115 people in last two days. The arrested people were accused of violating traffic rules.
The people have been arrested by the Madiwala police for jaywalking. Police sources informed that Bengaluru Police have started taking actions against pedestrians citing several road accidents in recent past.
The drive against jaywalking has been started at all the accident spots on Hosur Road, informed police sources.
While police produced a few of the arrested persons before the court, some were served notices and police asked them to appear before court or to pay fine.
Meanwhile, TV reports claimed that pedestrians, who will break the rules, would be fined Rs 110. Police also may arrest them.
Media report quoted Saleem, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, as saying, "The aim is to ensure pedestrians' safety and more such drives will be carried out after identifying accident prone spots."
The traffic police earlier had tried to educate pedestrians regarding traffic ruled. Cops made several announcements, which, unfortunately, fell in deaf ears.
Many pedestrians in Bengaluru were seen crossing the road by jumping the median. Such act put both the pedestrian and driver's lives in danger.
