Bengaluru-Kannur, Murudeshwar Trains to Get Modern LHB Coaches from May

Indian Railways is upgrading some trains from Bengaluru to coastal Karnataka and northern Kerala with new and better coaches called LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. These coaches are more comfortable and safer. The Palakkad Division of Southern Railway said this change will start in May.

Here are the trains that will get the new coaches:

LHB Coaches from May
  • SMVT Bengaluru-Murudeshwar Express (Train No. 16585) - from May 5
  • Murudeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express (Train No. 16586) - from May 6
  • KSR Bengaluru-Kannur Express (Train No. 16511) - from May 7
  • Kannur-KSR Bengaluru Express (Train No. 16512) - from May 8

Coach Details

Each of these trains will have 20 coaches after the change. The setup will include:

  • 1 First Class AC coach
  • 2 AC Two-Tier coaches
  • 4 AC Three-Tier coaches
  • 7 Sleeper coaches
  • 4 General coaches
  • 2 Generator cars (for power)

Right now, these trains use older ICF coaches with 22 coaches in total.

Why the Change?

The new LHB coaches are safer and give a smoother ride. They don't easily flip over during accidents and make less noise. They also have cleaner and more modern toilets.

Which Train Got It First?

The Matsyagandha Express was the first train in the region to get LHB coaches. It runs between Karnataka's coast and Mumbai and was upgraded in February. This change was something passengers had been asking for.
