Bengaluru: Iranian woman accuses boss of outraging her modesty

Bengaluru, Nov 19: In a case of sexual harassment at workplace, an Iranian woman employee has accused the director of a travel company of outraging her modest in the IT City.

A 25-year-old Iranian citizen working here at a travel company charged the director of the company of sacking her within 10 days of hiring. She claimed that she was fired from the work for not 'cooperating' with him.

The woman had procured working visa to work in India after the completion of her Masters in Tourism from a Bengaluru college. As she completed her post-graduation, she got a job offer on July 25, 2015 from a company- Puthedan Holidays, Jayanagar, 8th Block near Sangam Circle.

Following the offer, she obtained the visa to which the company assured to reimburse visa cost, ticket fare and to pay advance salary. The woman joined the company on Sept 28.

In the complaint filed by the woman, she stated that the company organised an event at Kothamangalam in Kerala but she refused to attend the same. The complaint further said, as she was uncomfortable to travel with her male colleagues to Kerala, she chose to remain out of the plan.

The woman alleged that the director of the company was groping her in her short stint of 10 days, as an employee in the company. Iranian lady added that the director even threatened to write to the Indian embassy located in Tehran, if she did not act on his whims and wishes.

The director effected her termination on October 9, after she refused to take part in the event hosted in Kerala, the complaint mentioned.

Police on Tuesday, Nov 17, registered a case against the director on charges of outraging a woman's modesty. The police said the Iranian woman has requested the Foreigners' Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) for permission to stay here till her compensation and the final settlement are paid.

Meanwhile, the FRRO has sent the petition to the police commissioner, who referred the case to the Jayanagar police.
