Local residents intervened, and the police detained the man after Payel lodged a complaint. The man claimed that Payel's car had grazed his bike but apologised to the police for the incident. Payel denied any such contact occurred.

Incident Amid Protests

The incident took place as the city has been witnessing protests for the past 10 days against the rape and murder of a postgraduate medical trainee at state-run R G Kar Hospital. Payel, who is also well-known in the South Indian film industry, expressed her fear and concern over women's safety in her video.

Payel recounted that when she refused to get out of her car, fearing for her safety, the man shattered her right side window, injuring her hand. "I don't know where we stand now. If a woman can be accosted and heckled in such a way in a crowded street at evening that exemplifies the real situation," she said in Bangla.

Public Reaction and Safety Concerns

Payel's emotional account highlights ongoing concerns about women's safety in public spaces. She mentioned that this incident occurred despite numerous rallies across the city focusing on women's safety issues. "I shudder to think what would have happened to me had this incident taken place in a deserted spot," she added, visibly shaken.

The incident has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of current measures to protect women in public areas. It underscores the need for more robust safety protocols and community vigilance to prevent such occurrences.

The actor's experience serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities women face daily. Her ordeal has resonated with many, prompting calls for immediate action to ensure safer environments for all.
