Bengal Panchayat Election Date Announced, To Be Held In Single Phase

During a press conference held today, it was officially announced by Sinha that the panchayat polls are set to take place on July 8. As per the guidelines, the last date for filing nominations is June 15, with the subsequent last date for withdrawal of nominations being June 20.

When questioned about whether the elections would be conducted under the supervision of central forces, as demanded by opposition parties, Sinha chose not to provide a direct response.

The Election

The village council elections will be conducted on a single day, and the final day for nomination filings is scheduled for June 15.

Regarding the counting of votes, the official confirmed that it will take place on July 11.

The Panchayati Raj system follows a three-tier structure comprising the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zila Parishad.

The upcoming panchayat election holds significant importance, as it is often seen as an indication of the voting preferences within the state for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
