Bengal Man's Body Exhumed in Jharkhand Following Allegations of Abduction and Murder

The remains of a 35-year-old man from West Bengal, believed to have been kidnapped and killed, were unearthed on Friday in a forest in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district. A police officer confirmed this development. The body was exhumed by a police team from Dalkhola in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district, alongside Kandra police, in the presence of a magistrate.

Body of Bengal Man Exhumed in Jharkhand

The deceased, Zakir Hussain, hailed from Dalkhol in North Dinajpur district. He had travelled to a village under Kandra police station on September 26 to meet Videsh Mardi, the accused. Mardi had invited Zakir to introduce him to some labourers. Zakir was known for supplying labourers to companies, and Mardi had previously worked as an assistant under him in Bengaluru.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Mardi allegedly extorted over Rs 95,000 from Zakir on that day. The money was transferred to an account belonging to one of Mardi's friends after Zakir was assaulted by the accused. Anjani Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Kandra police station, stated that Mardi later called Zakir's wife demanding an additional Rs 50,000 and threatened to kill Zakir if his demand wasn't met.

Fearing for her husband's safety, Zakir's wife promptly filed a complaint with the police. She suspected that her husband had been abducted for ransom. Using mobile phone tracking, the West Bengal police, along with Kandra police, apprehended Mardi on Friday. Kumar noted that during interrogation, Mardi attempted to mislead the authorities but was unsuccessful.

Exhumation and Evidence Recovery

The joint police team proceeded to the location where Zakir's body was buried. They exhumed it in the presence of a magistrate and sent it for post-mortem examination. Kumar mentioned that Zakir's belongings, including his bag, were also found at the burial site.

The forest area where the body was discovered falls under Burudih Panchayat jurisdiction in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. This incident highlights the collaborative efforts between West Bengal and Jharkhand police in solving this case.

This tragic event underscores the importance of swift action by law enforcement agencies when dealing with abduction cases. The recovery of Zakir's body and belongings provides crucial evidence for further investigation into this heinous crime.
