Bengal Governor compares Mamata to Vajpayee and BJP is not impressed

When Jagdeep Dhankar was the Governor of Bengal, very often he was at loggerheads with Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi, Feb 07: The comparison of West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee with former prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee by the Bengal Governor has not gone down too well with the BJP.

While speaking at the convicting of St Xavier's University on Monday, Bengal governor C V Ananda Bose compared Mamata Banerjee to Vajpayee, former President, A P J Abdul Kalam and former UK prime minister Winston Churchill.

The comments did not go down too well with the BJP's Bengal unit.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, "I partly agree with the Governor's assessment that Mamata Banerjee is like Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister responsible for the 1943 Bengal famine, arguably the worst genocide in human history resulting in over 4 million deaths from starvation and malnutrition."

"His speech on the occasion sounded as if he was rehearsing for the customary speech which he'll read out at the beginning of the upcoming Budget Session of WB Legislative Assembly," Adhikari also wrote while reacting to the Governor's comments.

Mamata Banerjee was awarded an honorary DLitt at the convocation.

The relations between Governor Bose and Mamata Banerjee have been friendly, unlike in the past when Raj Bhavan's relations with the Bengal CM had completely broken down.

Bose on the other hand has stayed out of politics and taken a more traditional approach.

Mamata vs Dhankar:

When Jagdeep Dhankar was the Governor of Bengal, he shared a tumultuous relationship with Mamata Banerjee. She had for long demanded the removal of Dhankar from Raj Bhavan. He was elevated as the vice president of India later on.

The Bengal CM had often complained that the letters from Raj Bhavan had made it difficult to govern the state.

Jagdeep Dhankar took charge as Governor of Bengal on July 30 2019 before the elections.

Dhankar had been accused by Mamata Banerjee of creating difficulties in file movements, clearance of files and challenging the authority of the Chief Minister on various matters.
