West Bengal Government Establishes Task Force to Enhance Safety for Healthcare Professionals
A state-level task force has been formed by the West Bengal government to ensure the safety of healthcare workers and enhance service quality. This initiative follows a commitment made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to junior doctors. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant will lead the task force, with key officials like Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and DGP Rajeev Kumar included.

The task force aims to address healthcare professionals' safety, security, and grievances. An order signed by Pant highlighted the government's dedication to improving healthcare services statewide. The task force will include two representatives from both senior and junior resident doctors, a female student nominee, and a member from the grievance redressal committee.
Healthcare Infrastructure and Security
Enhancing healthcare infrastructure is a primary focus for the task force. This includes ongoing projects related to on-duty rooms, washrooms, drinking water facilities, and CCTV surveillance systems. The order also emphasised monitoring police deployment and security personnel at state-run hospitals, including mobile police surveillance teams.
The task force will implement a centralised helpline and panic button system. Additionally, it will oversee a centralised referral system and real-time bed availability information systems. These measures aim to streamline operations and improve patient care across West Bengal's healthcare facilities.
Collaboration and Coordination
Ensuring high-quality healthcare for West Bengal's citizens requires collaboration with various stakeholders. The task force will coordinate efforts to achieve this goal. It will also supervise the functioning of committees related to security audits, internal complaints, and other relevant areas.
The task force members are expected to convene at least once a month. This regular meeting schedule is intended to maintain momentum in addressing healthcare challenges effectively. The order stressed the importance of consistent communication among task force members.
By establishing this task force, the West Bengal government demonstrates its commitment to improving healthcare services while prioritising the safety of its medical professionals. Through coordinated efforts, the state aims to provide better healthcare outcomes for its residents.
