Belagavi: BJP MLA's aide thrashes 2 youths over marriage row; arrested

Belagavi, Nov 14: In a shocking incident, two youths were stripped off and mercilessly beaten up allegedly by Belagavi (Rural) BJP MLA's right hand aide.

The incident reportedly happened on Nov 2, Sunday.

But it came in media on Nov 14, Friday when the TV News channels showed visuals where a man identified as Suresh Gatige was thrashing two youngsters with a hockey stick.

Gatige, said to be a close aide of the BJP MLA Sanjay Patil was allegedly assaulting the two for supporting their friend's marriage to the MLA's niece.

He thrashed both of them so brutally that a part of the hockey was also broken.

Both the victims are said to be the natives of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.

Police reluctant to file case against MLA's close aide

As per a report published in Navbharat Times, when one of the victim's father approached a police station in Kolhapur, then they refused to file the case by passing it off by claiming that the incident happened in Karnataka, so the case will be filed there only.

Finally, the case was registered on Nov 10 in Karnataka, but police did not initiate any against the accused.

When both the wounded youths met DIG Bhaskar Rao, then the video was made public.

Then, the police arrested Suresh Gatige along with four others.
