Battlegrounds Mobile India In Trouble! FIR Against BGMI Maker Krafton India Over Selling Users' Data
An FIR has been filed against popular game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) maker Krafton India. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has allegedly sold or shared its users' data with other companies to get monetary benefits, reports said. The reports claimed that sharing users' personal data violates the contract and terms and conditions set by the company at the time users register themselves.
A police complaint has been filed at Maharashtra's Akluj Police Station by rival company TalkEsport against Krafton India and four of its senior executives, alleging that BGMI unlawfully shared users' confidential data.

Karfton India has sold this data to third-party companies at a rate of Rs 2,000 per subscriber, claimed the complainant in FIR number 0474/2024.
If the claim turns out to be right, then the amount involved may cross a huge number as BGMI has over 100 million downloads on Android and IOS mobiles.
On orders of the Bombay High Court, an FIR was lodged under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and a hearing in the matter will be held on April 15, 2025.
Some other sections, like charges of criminal conspiracy (IPC Section 120-B), cheating (IPC Section 420), and violations of the Information Technology Act, 2000 - specifically Sections 72, 72A, and 85 have also been mentioned.
In reply, Krafton India has also filed writ petitions in the court seeking a stay on the investigation, challenging the FIR's procedural validity.
Justices Sarang V. Kotwal and Dr Neela Gokhale have ordered the respondents to file their reply before the Court hearing date.
