Daring Robbery in Basti: Woman Alleges Loot by 8-10 Men
A woman in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that 8-10 men robbed her house, taking away jewelry and cash. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

In a shocking incident, a woman from Odwara Ragadpurwa village in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that 8-10 men barged into her house late Sunday night and looted jewelry and cash worth Rs 20,000. The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, which has been grappling with the fear of robberies following the discovery of threatening posters by a purported group of robbers.
Police Investigation Underway
According to the victim, Nirmala Devi, the men knocked on her door and entered the house forcibly. They then proceeded to take her jewelry and cash, leaving her in a state of shock. The incident was reported to the police, and the woman's son, Lalit Mohan, filed a complaint at the Munderwa police station. The police have registered a case under sections 457 (trespass at night) and 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
Discrepancies in Victim's Allegations
However, the police have noted some discrepancies in the victim's allegations. As a result, the police circle officer (CO) and a special investigation team have visited the spot to verify the incident. Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopal Krishna Chaudhary stated that efforts are being made to ascertain the truth, as there are some inconsistencies in the victim's account.
Series of Threatening Posters
The incident comes amidst a series of threatening posters found in different villages of Basti. On December 21, posters were discovered in Vishunpurwa village of Rudhauli police station area, warning of robberies in select houses within ten days. Similar posters were found in Kodri village of Walterganj police station area on December 23 and in Chhapia Lutawan village of Munderwa police station area on December 27.
Heightened Security and Police Action
The posters created panic among the villagers, prompting them to form village security committees and maintain a vigil. In response, the police held a meeting with village heads, and the Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police visited the affected villages on December 30, advising residents to remain alert. Additionally, on December 31, a case was registered against unknown individuals in Rudhauli, Walterganj, and Munderwa police stations under Section 505 (statement to create public nuisance) of the IPC, based on a complaint filed by a village head.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of residents in Basti. The police are actively investigating the robbery and taking measures to address the fears sparked by the threatening posters. Villagers are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
