The ugly incident took place in a luxury hotel in the early hours of the day after the eight accused seeking selfies mobbed the cricketer, who obliged some and denied others when the requests became incessant.

The hotel manager asked the people to not disturb the cricketer and told them to leave the restaurant. This angered the accused and they gave chase to a car in which they believed the cricketer was leaving the hotel. However, a friend of the cricketer was traveling in it.

Near Jogeshwari Link Road, the accused attacked the car and broke its windscreen. They also demanded Rs 50,000 as extortion for not naming the car occupant in a fake case.

Prithvi Shaw's friend, who was inside the car drove to Oshiwara police station and registered a complaint.

A statement released by Mumbai Police later said, "Oshiwara Police has registered a case against 8 persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people."

As per news reports, Yadav also complained to the police that the attackers came in a white car and three bikes and even demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000.

A video has also emerged on social media where a girl could be seen pushing the cricketer and shouting. Later Prithvi Shaw's friend was attacked by eight people and his car's window was allegedly broken.

Following the complaint, police have booked the eight people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly and using weapons for offence - 143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504, 506.

Oshiwara Police have booked them for allegedly charging at Shaw and his friend, breaking the windshield of their car and demanding Rs 50,000.
