Banks Closed This Week For Four Days In A Row In Some States; When To Go

Banks this week are going to be closed for the next four days in a row in several parts of India. Readers can find below a list of states where banks may be closed for the next couple days.

23 May is celebrated as Buddha Purnima, or the birthday of Buddha, the man who founded Buddhism. It is a public holiday for banks in the following states: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

24 May is celebrated as Kazrul Jayanti, the birthday of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam from Bangladesh. While most states won't observe this as a public holiday, it is a well-celebrated holiday in Tripura, so banks in this state will remain closed for that Friday.

25 May marks the fourth Saturday of the month, and 26 May will be a Sunday. Banks take holidays on every second and fourth Saturday of the month, as well as every Sunday.

Readers from Tripura will not be able to visit their banks until Monday, 26 May, and those from any state listed that celebrates Buddha Purnima will only get a chance to visit their banks on Friday, 24 May, before the weekend begins. Those who don't stay in any of the aforementioned states can visit the bank at any point before or after the weekend.
