Bank Holiday On Mahavir Jayanti 2025: Know Govt, Private Banks Are Open Or Closed On April 10

Bank Holiday News: On the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, a public holiday will be observed on Thursday, April 10. Mahavir Jayanti is a prominent festival for Jains, and this year, 2623th birth anniversary of Mahavir Swami will be celebrated.

According to RBI's Gazetted holiday list, Banks in India will be closed on Mahavir Jayanti; however, online banking services will operate as usual.

Processions (rath yatra) of Lord Mahavir's idol is taken out on this day, along with people chanting devotional mantras and songs.

Lord Mahavir, also known as Vardhamana, was born in 599 B.C. in Kundalagrama, present-day Vaishali in Bihar. He laid the foundation of Jainism and gave the message of core values like Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness) to the world.

Lord Mahavir attained Moksha at the age of 72 in 527 B.C.

On April 14, 2025, Banks will be closed on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti, Vishu, Bihu, and Tamil New Year. States like Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh and UT's Delhi and Chandigarh will observe a bank holiday.

On April 15, 2025: Bengali New Year, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu will be celebrated in Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.

On April 18, 2025: Banks will be closed to celebrate Good Friday.

On April 21, 2025: A public holiday has been declared in Tripura to celebrate National Tribal Festival.

And on April 29, 2025: Birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, will be celebrated in Himachal Pradesh. Some other state are also expected to announce a public holiday.
