Two Bangladeshi Nationals Allegedly Sodomised and Assaulted in East Delhi
Two Bangladeshi nationals belonging to the LGBTIQA+ community were allegedly sodomised and assaulted by five men in east Delhi's Shakarpur area. Four accused, including a juvenile, have been apprehended.
In a shocking incident, two Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly assaulted and sodomised by five men in the Shakarpur area of east Delhi. The victims, who are part of the LGBTIQA+ community, reported this horrifying event to the police on Thursday. Four suspects have been apprehended so far; one among them is a minor.

The assault took place during the late hours of October 17 and early morning of October 18. The victims, one being a student at Delhi University and another recent arrival to Delhi, had attended Ramlila in Shakarpur. On their way back home, they encountered Abhishek - an acquaintance made through a dating app for homosexuals - accompanied by two friends.
Abhishek proposed engaging in sexual activity with both individuals. While the student declined his offer, his companion agreed to it tentatively. Consequently, all five men proceeded towards a nearby park where two additional friends joined them.
The Assault
In the park setting, Abhishek's other associates also began pressuring for physical intimacy with the Bangladeshi national which was met with refusal from both victims' end. This led to Abhishek and his four companions assaulting and sodomising them violently before leaving them behind.
Following this traumatic experience, both victims returned home and informed their friend about what transpired that night.
The Investigation Begins
A PCR call was logged at 1 am on October 18 regarding this incident leading to an FIR under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) & section 377 (unnatural offences) being registered against those involved as per IPC guidelines.
Achin Garg - Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police East stated that given the sensitivity surrounding this case, a dedicated team of 20 police personnel was formed immediately to investigate. The victims being foreign nationals added further urgency to the matter.
Progress in Investigation
The team scanned footage from at least 50 CCTV cameras in nearby areas and gathered human intelligence about the presence of LGBTIQA+ community members in that locality. Within a span of 12 hours, they were successful in apprehending three suspects - Devashish Verma (20), Surjeet (21), and Aryan alias Golu (20) along with a minor.
The search is still underway for Abhishek who remains at large till now.
In conclusion, this incident throws light on the vulnerability faced by marginalized communities like LGBTIQA+, particularly those from foreign countries. While swift action by Delhi Police is commendable, it's crucial that such heinous crimes are prevented through increased vigilance and stringent laws protecting these communities' rights.
